巨大米工場に驚愕I was shocked to see a massive a Rice FactoryI was interested in going on this trip because my grandfather is a farmer, and I know how hard farm work is, and the problems concerning farming in Japan, like the aging of the work force. I wanted to learn about the current situation of, and issues concerning, agriculture in Thailand and Japan, and to use what I learned to try to nd solutions to agricultural problems in Japan. I also wanted to try ai rice.We went to two rice plants in ailand. At the rst plant, I was surprised by the amount of rice. ere were 5-meter-high piles of rice here and there. Rice farming in ailand is run as a business. Things like separating the rice and putting it into bags were done by machines, and the only job for people to do was to put the bags of rice on trucks. The second plant was owned by a company and it was the biggest one in ailand. ere was a monitoring room where they could tell instantaneously where each truck was at any moment, as well as any problems in the plant. In the research room, they were working hard to improve the quality of the rice. e company itself had a lot of money, but the farmers’ salaries were extremely low, and this is the same problem as in Japan.I had a lot of fun interacting with ai people. ey are very kind and gentle. My host family brought me to many places, so I have great memories. I thought that the king of Thailand was loved by the people. Before movies and plays, they showed a video of the king and played the national anthem. People loved the number 5, because he was the fifth king, it seems. The school was huge and nice. I enjoyed my time there too. Everything I experienced on this trip was new, and I had a wonderful time.　僕が今回の研修に参加したきっかけは、祖父が農家ということもあって、農作業の過酷さや農家の高齢化などの問題を身近に感じていて、輸出依存と言われるほどたくさんの米を作っているタイに行くことで両国の課題と現状について知り、お互いの良さを生かすことで何か解決策を見つけてみたいと思ったからです。タイ米を食べてみたかったというのも理由の一つです。　タイでのフィールドワークでは、２つの米工場に行きました。１つめの工場では、まず米の量に驚きました。５メートルくらいまで積み上げられた白米があちこちに山をつくっていました。タイの農業は企業的に行われていて、米の選別や袋詰めがほとんど機械で行われていて、人がするのはトラックに詰め込む作業だけでした。２つめの工場は大きな会社の中にあって、タイで一番の大きさでした。トラック１台１台が今どこにいるか瞬時に分かったり、工場内の不具合がすぐに分かるという大きなモニタールームにも行きました。米の研究室では様々な基準を設けて選別したり、目で見るだけでは分からないようなことにまでこだわって、より良い米を作るために奮闘していました。会社自体はすごく潤っていたけど、農家の給料はすごく低いらしいので、日本と同じ課題点だと思いました。　文化交流の面ではすごく楽しかったです。タイ人はとても親切で優しい人ばかりでした。ホストの人はいろいろな所に連れて行ってくれて、たくさんの貴重な経験が出来ました。その中で思ったのが、プミポン国王がすごく愛されているということでした。街の至る所にでかい垂れ幕があって、映画の前も劇の前も国王のビデオに合わせて国歌が流れていました。人々が５という数字をこよなく愛する理由も、彼が５代目だったかららしい。学校はものすごく広くて、豪華でした。そこでの体験も貴重なものになりました。今回の研修は体験することすべてが新鮮で、とても充実したもになりました。２年Z2組　井上　聖大Shota Inoue : StudentEXCELSIOR vol.1899
