Super Global High School Fieldwork in Oversea Countriesタイと日本の農業の違いDifference between Thai and Japanese AgricultureFrom the time I started high school, it was my dream to go on a sister school trip and to talk with high school students from another country. Before going, I had participated in events where I had a chance to learn about other cultures from people from other countries, and I discovered the joy of learning. I was also interested in the theme of this trip – agriculture. I often see and hear the phrase “Eat locally”. By buying locally-produced food, we can eat traditional food which is nutritious, fresh, and in season. However, I thought that we can only buy local food in the countryside, and that it is difficult to nd in cities. Because of my interest in agriculture, I applied to be part of the group that went to ailand. We went to a rice factory in ailand and saw how rice was processed there. In Japan, farms are small and family-run, but in Thailand agriculture is run on a large scale using big factories. is is a big dierence between agriculture in Japan and ailand. I thought it strange that machines from Japan did a lot of the work, while people used their hands put the rice in the sacks and on the trucks.I found people in Thailand to be big-hearted and friendly. My host mother introduced me to people as “my daughter”, and this made me very happy. Thai people revere their king, and there were pictures of the king and queen everywhere in town. We spent the seventh day with our host families. It was our last day, and we went to many places together. First, we went to a sunower garden. Sunowers are not in bloom in Japan in this season, so it was fun to go there. Next, we went to a zoo. We could get closer to the animals than in Japan, and we could feel their power. Last, we went to the sea. e sea was quite beautiful, and we swam a lot. We rode on a banana boat and rubber boat, and these were the scariest boats I have ever ridden on. e rubber boat went at full speed to the bay, and I would have been thrown into the sea if I had let go with one of my hands. I thought I was going to die at rst, but for some reason I started to really enjoy the ride after a while. Finally, Thai people are kind and easy to talk to, so I had a good time there. I was able to go on this trip thanks to my parents, teachers, and many other people. I want to make use of what I learned overseas. Ayaka Sai : StudentEXCELSIOR vol.18101
