Super Global High School Fieldwork in Oversea CountriesSGHタイ・フィールドワークMy Trip to ThailandI went to Bangkok Christian College (“BCC”) ailand to do eldwork as part of the Super Global High School program. Our goal was to use what we learned as first year students to develop agriculture in Thailand and Japan. After seeing the rice polishing facility and rice fields operated by the parent of a BCC student, we gave a presentation about 5 things: the climate in Iwate, the decline of agriculture there, changes in machinery, the land in Iwate, and dierent brands of rice. is was followed by a question and answer session and discussion in English with BCC students that are in the same research group. I want to think about how to use what we learned on this trip to develop a business plan when students from BCC come to Chuo in January. I learned many things while talking with students from BCC. I was surprised that there were so many LGBT people in ailand. About 50% of the students that I met there are gay, and they are open about it. This is unimaginable in Japan, and I felt that Japan is behind the times in being open about being gay. In addition, many ai people are religious. BCC is a Christian school, but most of the students there are Buddhist. My host family took me to a temple on our day o, and I was surprised at how dierent the temples there are from in Japan. People in Thailand like to be around many other people, and I enjoyed being surrounded by people on my days o and after school. ai people are really nice and easy to get to know, so I would like to study or work in Bangkok in the future, if I have a chance. I saw a huge gap between rich and poor when I was there. In some areas, the bodies of dead stray dogs were left lying in the streets, and I thought that there is a lack of sanitation in Thailand. In October of this year, the king of Thailand passed away, and there were pictures and photographs of the king all over the city, as the country mourned. I felt, on seeing this, that people in Thailand strongly respect their king. Thailand is a fascinating country, and I was able to learn many things by going there. I want to share and make use of what I learned. Hana Sekii : StudentEXCELSIOR vol.18103
