森の中の高校Commute by Train in Blackwood　金曜日の午後アデレードに着いたので、学校に行ったものの授業は終わり、生徒たちがホストファミリーに引き取られるのを見ているのが初日であった。にこやかに迎えてくれたブラックウッドのキャリン先生が国際交流担当の先生である。生徒が居なくなってから、突如「マンダイから… （from Monday）」とか言って、校舎裏手の寂しい林の中をどんどん歩き始めた。何のことかと思いつつ後に続いて、ほどなく月曜日の駅からの通勤経路を案内しているのに気づき合点がいった。漫才？ 万代？ トゥダアイToday。そう、ダイのオーストラリア生活がこれでスタートしたのだ。　広い芝生のグラウンドを備え、まさしく森の中の高校である。他の学校同様に、校舎は２階建ての簡素な造りだが、コンピュータなどの設備は充実している。今回３D立体制作の体験授業があった。その設備が整っていたのにはびっくりした。また、自己表現力の養成に力点が置かれ、芸術部門特にもドラマなどの演劇や音楽の演奏発表のためのホールや楽器も十分備えられていて羨ましい。　生徒の留学生活は、やはり日本とは異なる環境のなか特にも食生活の違いに苦労しながらも、丁寧なデビット先生の英語レッスンに感化され、また多くの朗らかなバディとともに一緒に過ごしていくにつれ、初日は緊張感に包まれたものの、すぐに楽しく過ごしているようであった。　私は、毎日市中心部にあるホテルから片道30分程列車に乗り、駅から10分ほど山道を歩いて通勤した。バスも列車も公共機関は統一の乗車券カードがあり、一律３＄で乗れて便利である。途中、グッドウッド、ミルズウッドの駅を通る。今は住宅地となっているが、林を切り開いた地区なのだろう。南半球なので春に向かう時期であったが今年は例年より寒いそうで、半袖を着られる日はなかった。が、通勤路の庭先には日本では見られない色とりどりの花々が咲き誇り、確かに春を感じさせる景色であった。　　２回目のアデレードである。今回も本当に親切な人々のお世話になった研修であった。英会話がおぼつかなく、アルカイックではごまかさないと誓っているのだが、つい笑みが出てしまう。だから生徒たちが頼もしく思える。この研修は、是非を続けていってほしいと願う。あっという間の有意義な２週間であった。When we arrived in Adelaide on Friday afternoon, classes were already over at the school, and our students were going home with their host families. e teacher Ms. Karyn Jones, from Blackwood in charge of international exchange met our group with a smile on her face. After all of the students had left, she said “from Monday”, and began to walk quickly through the lonely woods behind the school building. I wondered where we were going, and then I realized that she was showing us the way to go from the station to the school on Monday. She pronounced “today” like “to die”, so we had to get used to Australian English. e school has a big grass eld next to it, and the complex is truly in the middle of a forest. Like other schools, the school was a simple 2-story building, but there were many computers in the school. We went to a class about 3D printing. I was surprised at all of the computer equipment that they had. In addition, the students there were encouraged to express themselves, and there was a concert hall for theatrical and music performances, along with many instruments. I envied this.Our students had problems adapting to the different environment, especially the different food, but as they started studying English with Mr. David and spending time with their cheerful host brothers and sisters, they were soon having a great time. Every day, I spent 30 minutes riding the train from my hotel, and 10 minutes walking through the hills to the school. I was able to use the same card for both the train and bus. e cost was $3, and this card was very convenient. e area I passed through on the train is now a residential area, but it probably used to be a forest. Since we were in the southern hemisphere, spring was on its way, but this year was colder than usual, so we did not wear short-sleeved shirts. However, it felt like spring because of all of the colorful flowers blooming in the gardens next to the houses we passed by.This was my second time to Adelaide. I met so many nice people both times. My English is not very good, so I ended up mostly just smiling at people who talked to me. I relied on my students. I hope that trips like this continue into the future.
