My name is Haruna Nakano. I went to Charles Campbell College as an international student. I felt that last year was the shortest year of my life. At the same time I learned so many things.I am not good at English, but I am very interested in foreign countries, and in communicating with foreign people, more than other Japanese students. In my future, I am thinking that I want to get an international job. For that reason, I felt I need to have the experience of studying abroad. Then I decided to enter the study abroad course of Morioka Chuo High School. However, at the beginning of Japanese high school life, I did not realize that I was going to study abroad, but time was passing quickly. When I could get my host family’s information, I felt excited and afraid. is was the first time I realized that I am really going to study abroad. I felt half excited and half afraid, so I had mixed feelings. When I arrived in Adelaide, I did not feel “I will do my best”, so much as “I have arrived in Adelaide at last”. I got in my host family’s car to go to their house, but I had no condence to speak English, so honestly I was thinking that I do not want them to speak to me in the car. e view from the car was absolutely dierent from in Japan.I changed my home stay for some reason when half the year had passed. The people in my host family were very nice. ey accepted me as a member of their family. When I did not know what to do, they always helped me. ey love Japan, so I could talk about Japan with them. Speaking in English all the time was harder than I had imagined. When I am in Japan, I easily can tell people about any of my feelings, but I could not do this in English. I had a dicult time with many school assignments, but I became friends with ISEC classmates who were all international students through those assignments. I continued to speak only Japanese for EXCELSIOR vol.18119
