News&Topicsと佇んでいた。そして千鳥ヶ淵戦没者墓苑、靖国神社、最高裁判所へは徒歩で1時間足らずでめぐることができるというアクセスのよさ。とても田舎者の私には似合わないホテルだった。　翌日、2016年11月12日。待ちに待った、第10回全日本高校模擬国連大会。相方は終始笑顔で、希望に満ち溢れた表情をしていた。対して私は、心臓の鼓動が抑えきれなかった。　開会式が終了。議長が席に着く。その後、公式発言の募集があった。事前の取り決めにより、相方でなく私がスピーチすることに。ほとんどのチームが挙手した。なんと、私たちはファーストスピーカーになってしまった。初応募。初出場。メモリアル10周年。そのファーストスピーカーであると認識した瞬間、目の前に闇雲が立ち込めていた。　一番目であるからなのか、みんな作業を止め、私のスピーチを聞いていた。真剣に聴き、中にはうなずく者まで現れた。手ごたえを感じた（実際、後に回ってスピーチした国の聴衆の反応は良くなかった）。しかし内容的には、「アメリカはやりたい放題だ」などと名指しで批判。その後が怖かった。　大胆な発言が功を奏したのか、スピーチの後、複数の国から協力の要請が舞い込んできた。結果的には成功だったのではないかと思う。成功の要因には、大胆な発言ともう一つ、私の英語の悪さにあった。帰国子女の大使が多く参加し、ハイレベルな英語を話している中で、私はトップクラスで発音が悪い。つまり典型的なカタカナ読みのジャパニーズ・イングリッシュだった。文章もさほど難しくない。そのため逆に聞き取りやすく理解しやすかったのではなかったのではないか。こう推測する。実際、ほかの大使の英語は何を言っているのか、さっぱり理解できなかった。レベルの差は歴然としていた。　公式発言が個人的に成功裏に終わり、少し気を抜いていた。しかし、ここからが勝負だった。模擬国連において、議場を支配する方法は、ここにあるのかと痛感した。それが、最初の非公式討議（Unmoderated Caucus）である。議場ではもっぱら後者を用いる。この際に、私と相方は椅子から悠々と立ち上がり、少々狼狽しつつ、何をすればよいか分からずキョロキョロしていた。対してほかの大使は、自国に協力してくれる大使を必死で集めるため、声を張り上げていた。この時点で、勝負は決する。最初の非公式討議を支配した大使が２日目まで支配し、そして入賞していった。　１日目は、43カ国が分裂し、7つ程度のグループが形成された。中国の春秋・戦国時代のような、群雄割拠の様相を示した。　2日目。この日は前日と一転し、いつの間にか7つが2つのグループへと吸収・合併された。私の役割は、ほかのグループの文言と私たちが属するグループのそれとの比較をし、対立点をまとめること、ほかget used to the hotel since I am from the countryside.The rst day of the 10th All-Japan High School Model United Nations was November 12, 2016. After the opening ceremony was over and the presider had sat down, the formal speeches began. It was decided that I would be the first speaker, even though it was my first time to attend the event, which was a special 10th anniversary one. When it sunk in that I was the rst speaker, everything looked dark to me.Everyone stopped what they were doing and listened carefully to my speech. Some people nodded, and I felt a positive reaction. (The reaction to later speeches was not good.) However, people criticized the content, saying “America can do whatever it wants”. This was scary.As a result of this speech, many countries asked for my cooperation afterwards. I think that my speech was not a success. While I said something bold, my English was horrible. Many of the other students were girls who had studied abroad, but my pronunciation was terrible. It sounded like I was speaking English with Japanese pronunciation. The sentences were not that difficult, so my speech was probably easy to understand. I had no idea what the other students were saying in their speeches. The difference in our English ability was obvious.I was able to relax a bit after my speech. However, the next part was the really difcult part. Next was the Unmoderated Caucus, which was something I was not used to. First, all of the students stood up, dgeted and looked around, and wondered what to do.
