Students must be active participants in the world they live in.Olga Shevchenko Principal of nternational Linguistic School生徒は自分たちが生きる社会に積極的に参加しなければならないインターナショナル・リングィスティック・スクール　校長　オルガ・シェフチェンコ　　To understand the significance of the International Education Forum we must remember the time we are living in. The Forum is a unique event where students from different countries work together, share ideas, speak about serious things and have fun. Here they can understand that being together doesn’t depend on their nationality, but how much we have in common, that the global goal in the world is Peace and Justice and they can help solve the world’s challenges by overcoming language barriers and cultural differences. 　　It was great that the 20th Forum was devoted to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). First, there was a question – Is the topic appropriate for school students? And then, a quick answer – Denitely, YES!!! This is a generation that must create interconnected and multicultural societies and positive change for a bright future. 　　As an educator, I was thinking how to engage students in practical goals and problem-solving. The SDGs are universal goals for all people, and are inherently global in nature. Learning about these initiatives helps students develop insights into issues around the world. Even if they do not have these problems in their own country, students need to learn about the world around them.　　To solve the world’s biggest challenges, we must encourage students to be active participants in their local and global communities and develop global citizens who are passionate about caring for others. Our school appreciates active students who devote their time to children and the elderly in hospitals, orphanages and care centers. Not only thinking of the goals, they also help people be happier. The essential thing is that the students themselves feel happier being wanted. They learn empathy and compassion which leads to passionate, engaged adults.　　So, teachers have to provide young people with the tools to be successful in their lives. The Forum is the very place where they can learn to use these tools. The adults who cooperate with each other, who are active, tolerant, and curious create important relationships among the leaders of tomorrow through the Forum. We need to create leaders who can nd solutions to global problems, and to develop international programs to educate young people who can act on the world stage.　　It is always impressive to see young people who demonstrate the desire to make links and learn more about each other.　　国際教育フォーラムの意義を知るためには、私たちが生きている時代というものについて考えなければならない。フォーラムは異なる国から集まった生徒たちが考えを分かち合い、主要な問題について話し合い、そしてまた、楽しいひと時を過ごすというユニークな行事である。ここで、彼らは、一緒に何かするということは、その人の国籍によるものではなく、世界平和、正義という共通のゴールをどれだけ認識しているかということによることを理解することになる。そして、彼らは文化や言語の違いという障害を乗り越えて、世界が直面する問題を共に解決することができるのだ。　20回目のCHUO国際教育フォーラムが持続可能な開発目標(Sustainable Development Goals: SDG)に特化できたことは素晴らしいことであった。最初、果たしてこれが、高校生が話し合うのに適したテーマなのだろうか、という疑問が呈された。しかしその疑問には、すぐさま、「もちろん、適している」という答えが出された。私たちの生徒の世代こそが、輝ける未来のために、相互に関係し合う多文化社会を構成し、前向きな変化を生み出していかなければならないのだ。　教育者として私は、生徒たちが実践的な目標を立て、問題解決のために取り組むためにはどうしたらいいかと考えていた。SDGsはすべての人々のためのものであり、もともと、地球規模の問題である。これらの議案について学習することは、世界の問題に対する生徒の洞察力を鍛える。たとえ、生徒たちが自国ではそのような問題に直面していないとしても、彼らは、世界で起こっていることを知る必要がある。　世界が直面する最重要の問題を解決するために、私たちは、生徒たちが彼らが住んでいる社会や、グローバルなコミュニティに積極的に関わり、他者を気遣い思いやるグローバル市民に成長するようにしなければならない。私たちの学校は、病院や孤児院、ケアセンターに出向いて、子供たちや高齢者の世話を熱心に行っている生徒を素晴らしいと思っている。彼らは到達目標を考えるだけでなく、人々が幸せになることに手を貸しているからだ。最も本質的なことは、必要とされることで、生徒たちが幸福になることである。彼らは、他者の感情に寄り添い、同情心を持つことを習得することによって、将来、情熱をもって人と関わることができる人間になるのだ。EXCELSIOR vol.20114
