こと、新しい場所を知り、新しい食べ物に挑戦したことのみならず、自分に先入観があったことにも気づきました。日本はカルチャーショックでした。様々な違い、暑さなど、多くを学べた素敵な国でした。様々な文化を感じ、ニュージーランドを代表しての参加は誇りで、楽しみました。世界中の人と友達になったこと、そして世界において教育に対して違う考え方があることを勉強したことも収穫でした。ニュージーランドが置かれている教育面での立場や、それぞれの国の立場を学べたことは、私たちにとって貴重でありました。時々言葉の壁にぶつかったこともありましたが、みんな素敵な人で、初めて来た私たちに親切にしてくださいました。生徒同士の交流は楽しかったです。カラオケに行き、ウィズカフィアのブラック＆イエローを一緒に歌い、ゲームセンター、ボウリングで親交を深めました。様々な文化背景を持つ私たちを引き合わせてくださった盛岡中央高校に感謝します。　　The primary reason for our overseas endeavour was the 20th Chuo International Forum. The topic this year was “Our Ideal School for 2030”. The aim was to create a presentation by collaborating ideas from different cultures to share on the day of the forum. We prepared for this by splitting the 60 students from 17 countries into 5 groups and as a result we were surrounded by people from the other side of the world. There were alternative viewpoints and we challenged ourselves to understand and appreciate points brought up by other students that were very different to the lifestyle in New Zealand. It was also very interesting that many ‘ideal schools’ for a lot of the Asian countries look very similar to the New Zealand schooling system. 　　The day of the forum was overwhelming. The theatre had 3 tiers of seating with a capacity of 2000 plus people. We presented the 5 presentations to the Chuo students and they graded it. It was an awesome opportunity to speak in front of this many people. We wrapped up the forum with cultural performances from each country, and we performed a haka. The haka is the main event for many of the spectators and the reception we received after performing is certainly something we’ll never forget. 　この海外訪問への第一の目的はフォーラムへの参加でした。今回のテーマは “ʼAn Ideal School in 2030”。目標は、文化背景の違うみんなと共にアイディアを出し合い、フォーラムの日に発表することです。17の国と地域から参加した60名の生徒は５グループに分かれ、全く違う国と地域の生徒が入り混じりながら発表の準備をしました。ニュージーランドとは違う生活スタイルの生徒たちの意見に耳を傾け、理解に努めました。興味深かったのはアジアから参加しているみんなの理想とする学校が、いま現在のニュージーランドの学校システムに似ていたことです。　フォーラムの日は感激そのものでした。ホールは3階構造で約2,000の観客席がありました。5つのプレゼンテーションがあり、その発表は審査されました。多くの人の前で発表することは貴重な機会でした。最後は伝統芸能の発表で締めくくり、私たちはハカを披露しました。ハカは多くの人に大きな感動を与えたようで、その反響を一生忘れることはないでしょう。　　The nervousness of being in a foreign country was a bit overwhelming for us. Some of us didn’t know who our host family was. Host families can make or break a trip like this but luckily for us they definitely made it. They were extremely welcoming, kind, patient and understanding even though some of them did not quite understand English. Even though home was far away we felt comfortable when we were with our host families. Conversing was an obstacle but that did not stop the banter that we shared. Singing, laughter and tears filled the air on our last day, saying goodbye to the people who had become our family was not easy. The sombre mood echoed throughout the station as hands waved through glass windows and goodbyes were exchanged. 　　On the last Saturday we experienced Chuo’s cultural festival - which mainly consisted of Chuo students scaring us in their homemade haunted houses. This was also a chance for us to perform our cultural performances for a second time, with less pressure.
