He would be completely lost in our modern and computerized world, but completely at ease in a classroom. Is that normal?Do you know that by 2025 there will be 6 billion smartphones? That 87% of young adults never leave their phones, even at night? That 50% of the text messages young people send are made between 9 in the morning and 5 in the afternoon, in other words, during classes? Do you also realize that 65% of young people in classrooms today will be working in jobs that don’t yet exist? That many among you will be creating businesses, products, services and new jobs? And that more than half your generation will launch a startup?I could go on.All this to tell you that the world is changing rapidly. *School is also changing, but unfortunately it is evolving much slower than the rest of society. In the majority of current schools, you’ll find a teacher in front of a blackboard dispensing his or her knowledge to a group of students who are all the same age, seated in desks arranged in rows. The room is closed and natural light is rare. This model is the product of choices made at the time of the Industrial Revolution. It was aimed at training a docile workforce in an economy centred on mass production. This model no longer serves any purpose in the kind of globalized knowledge economy we are experiencing today.
