Having been fortunate enough to be able to attend the 21st Morioka Chuo International Forum, I came away with a sense of exhilaration and rejuvenation, invigorated to find more ways in which I and my colleagues can contribute to support Chuo into the future.As always, the interaction between the Chuo students and those visiting from the sister schools created an environment of vitality and enthusiasm which impacted on them all. This opportunity to be able to work together on matters that are critical to them was the basis for the passion that was clearly evident in the actual Forum as groups presented the findings of their research and discussion and in turn their recommendations for action. It would be good to know how the individual sister schools actually plan to put into practice these recommendations so fervently presented at the Forum. Perhaps a brief follow-up report could be provided in the following year?It is timely for us to remember that it is easy to talk about student leadership, but unless young people are given the trust, respect and above all the opportunity to “take the reins”, it remains just talk. Morioka Chou goes this extra step and is to be commended.I was particularly impressed on this occasion by the way the teachers of Chuo and their sister school counterparts were able to share the realities of their profession. The level of organisation which provided the groundwork for their discussions was well thought out and successful. Certainly the content and depth of the discussions and the interaction between participants were of practical application to all. There were lots of new ideas presented. As importantly, everyone seemed to really enjoy the experience. The 21st International Forum was just another example of how the school continues to commit vision, time and resources to take its students beyond the boundaries of Morioka and indeed Japan. There would be few, if any, other schools in Japan who could match the professional contact that Morioka Chuo now has with other schools and educational institutions across the world and then uses this to the benefit of its students.It really is a Global School by any denition. 第21回盛岡CHUO国際教育フォーラムに出席する幸運を得て、気持ちの高揚と若返りを感じ、未来において私や私の同僚たちが中央高校の未来を支援できる方法をもっと探したいという気持ちに駆られて帰国いたしました。 例年のように、中央高校の生徒たちと訪問してくる姉妹校の生徒たちの交流は、活気と熱気で全体を包む環境を作り出します。彼らにとって重要な事項を一緒に話し合うこの機会こそがその情熱の元になっているもので、そのことは、実際のフォーラムにおいて、リサーチで理解でき、ディスカッションや行動に移す提案などを発表している様子にありありと映し出されていました。すばらしく熱心に発表され、このような提案が、各姉妹校で実際にどのように実践されるのか実際の計画を知りたいですね。次年度にその概要だけでも報告するということにしてはどうでしょうか。 生徒たちのリーダーシップに関して話すことは簡単ですが、若者たちが信頼と敬意を示し、そして、何よりもそれを実際に取り仕切ることができる機会を与えられるのでなければ、ただの話だけで終わってしまうことになります。それは私たちが思い出すいい時機でもあります。盛岡中央高校がこのさらなるステップを踏んでいることは称賛に値することです。 中央高校と姉妹校の先生が職業上の現状を分かち合っている様子に今回特に深い感銘を受けました。議論ができるための下準備がしっかりと考えられていて、成功をおさめています。明白であったのは、ディスカッションの内容と深さ、そして、参加者間の交流が、全員にとって実際に応用できるものであったことです。たくさんの新しい案も発表されました。誰もが体験を楽しんだことは、同様に重要なことでした。 最後になりましたが、第21回CHUO国際フォーラムは、生徒たちを盛岡さらに日本を超えて世界に飛び出させるためのビジョンに学校が徹し、教育環境を充当していることを示す良い例の一つです。盛岡中央高校が享受している姉妹校またその他の教育機関との提携は世界に広がり、それを生徒たちのために使っている学校は他にあったとしても、極めて稀な存在でしょう。 如何なる定義を持ってしても、真のグローバル・スクールです。A true ‘global school’真のグローバル・スクールEdward G.
