One of the activities all the students from around the world did in Morioka was the Wanko Soba competition. It is a noddle eating competition. Before heading to Morioka, my homeroom teacher at school told me that the record was 203 bowls that was made by a student from New Zealand a few years ago. As a competitive person, I set a goal that I would beat at least 3 out of the 4 of the New Zealand students. At the event I decided to eat in a rhythm instead of eating too fast. To my surprise, I was able to eat a lot more than I expected. At about 125 bowls, I was starting to feel a little nauseous. So I decided to eat at a slower pace. I don’t know how but when I realized, I had gotten to 200 bowls. I decided to nish at 207 bowls because I started to lose the feeling in my body. I was very happy that I was able to break the record. At the end, I was given a wooden plaque with my name on it commemorating my achievement. 世界中から盛岡に集まった生徒たちが参加した活動の一つがわんこそば競争でした。そばを食べる競争です。盛岡に来る前に担任の先生からニュージーランドから来た学生が数年前に達成した203杯が最高記録だと教えられました。負けず嫌いの私は、すくなくても４人中３人のニュージーランドの生徒に勝ってやろうと目標を建てました。 わんこそば競争では、私は、早く食べるよりもリズミカルに食べようと気を付けました。そして、125杯目ごろ、だんだん吐き気がしてきました。それで、私は、ペースを落としてたべました。どうやって食べたのか思い出せませんが、気が付くと200杯も食べていました。それで、207杯まで食べてやめることにしました。だんだん、体を感じられなくなってきたからです。記録を更新できてとてもうれしかったです。私の新記録を記念した木の楯をもらいました。 I could have many enjoyable experiences at Morioka starting from my first homestay to Wanko soba, and so much more. Especially I had fun with my host family. I felt very welcomed when they took me out to look around. Even though they said there was nothing much, I remember eating Morioka Reimen and looking at the art made on the rice fields. We also went to Yakiniku and met more friends there. I went out with my host student after school and we took the bus to the mall. It was touching and enjoyable. It wasn’t something out of the ordinary, but it wasn’t something that I would’ve been able to do if I hadn’t gone there and if my host student hadn’t been so open-minded and nice. My host family also surprised me as I didn’t know some of the words I use in everyday life were dialect. So I tried to explain, and they taught me their dialect. It was interesting to know how much language could change. I hope that I can meet them and the people that I met at this forum again. 私はわんこそばから始まる、様々な楽しい体験を盛岡で持つことができました。特にホストファミリーと一緒にいることを楽しみました。市街を観光したりと、よくもてなしてくれました。ホストファミリー、盛岡には見るところがないと言っていましたが、私は、盛岡冷麺を食べたり、田んぼアートを見たりしたことを覚えています。焼肉を食べに行って、沢山の友達に会ったりしました。放課後、私はホスト生徒と一緒にバスに乗ってモールに行きました。特別なことではなく普通のことでしたが、もしも、そこに行かなけなければ、そしてホスト生徒が心が広く親切でなければできないことで、とても楽しく心に残っています。私のホストファミリーは、私が毎日使っている言葉の中に方言があることを教えてくれ、私は知らなかったので、びっくりしました。私が説明し、今度はホストファミリーが彼らの方言を教えてくれました。言葉がどれだけ変化するのかというのは、興味深いことでした。ホストファミリーやフォーラムで出会った人たちにまた会いたいと思います。My breathtaking Wanko soba experience驚くようなわんこそば体験Tyler Masaki SimpsonStudentMy First Homestay私の初めてホームステイMaili Chibana CristStudentEXCELSIOR vol.2148
