self – confidence as well as evaluation from others. Also, unlike in Japan, there were many lessons on PC and tablets, which deepened my thinking ability. The daily cycle was different and fresh every day, unlike Japan. Before entering the middle term of studying abroad, I went to volunteer every Saturday at a café run by an acquaintance of a coordinator. This volunteer café is a place where many aboriginal people live, and it was a good opportunity to actually interact with the indigenous people. I cooked in the kitchen because I was good at cooking. The café was always busy, and I felt a sense of fulfillment in making very large lunches. I cooked as a volunteer for a week while talking with Sophie who runs this café, and my wide range of opinions and ideas were very helpful. I changed host families while studying abroad because there wasn’t much conversation between my family and myself. When I talked to the host, they simply nodded their head up and down to the end the conversation. I was so lonely at home that I started thinking negative that my host wouldn’t talk to me because my English was poor. 4. New familyAfter I changed host families, the new host family was very kind and accepted me like a real family. I was worried because they ware vegetarian, but they made satisfying meals without meat. I was able to cook Japanese food together and have fun talking every day. Something happened after moving to the new house. I lost my key. I thought the key had a strap so I could find it quickly, but I couldn’t find it after days. Mother told me that I was a “naughty girl” while laughing. At a later date, the mother called out loud and thought about something. It turns out the key was hidden under the dog`s bed. The dogs seemed to have hidden the strap attached to the key after playing with it, mistaking it for a toy. When we knew that, we laughed and my host mother said “naughty.” this time to the dog. Thanks to this event, I was able to reduce the distance between my host and me. Before returning home, I was very happy when my host mother said, `` you are an international student and are of a different nationality, but for me you are my daughter.``5. Thank you everyoneLooking back at that one year of studying abroad, at first I was struggling with pronunciation and was unable to feel comfortable in my new environment, but I felt that my consciousness had changed drastically in various ways. I felt a little different, as I tried to convey it without talking and actively participated in classes. Above all, it seemed that, my study made my listening skills even better. I will continue to study hard and aim for more certifications so that I do not waste what I gained from studying abroad. Finally, I realized that this study abroad was supported by many people, including teachers, coordinators, and Chuo High School. In particular, my family is worried that I cannot thank them enough. Thank you very much for the valuable experience of studying abroad.EXCELSIOR vol.2187
